I love a comic book that looks like a comic book and is filled with a sense of wonder and awe and adventure and imagination. Photo realistic images might show off artistic talent, and there are plenty of dark and dreary comics that are great...but more and more I want to read the opposite of that. The latest incarnation of Silver Surfer, from Superior Spider-Man mastermind Dan Slott and Madmad legend Michael Allred, is everything that is great about comics. Extra bonus, it's a comic that a kid can actually read and enjoy and not walk away from scarred for life.
